Abstract: Continued fractions are fundamental objects in number theory and applications, and their properties have been studied for centuries. I will present a modern approach to their study using the ergodic theory of group actions on homogeneous spaces.
Bio: I am a Professor of Mathematics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India. I am also currently the Dean of the School of Mathematics. My interests revolve around dynamics on homogeneous spaces and interactions with Diophantine analysis.
